‘Slaughtered like an animal’ - Police seize gun, getaway vehicle after shooting death of security guard

Investigators probing the murder of a security guard at Unbelievably Low Price Trading in Stony Hill on Wednesday night have revealed that forensic evidence will be crucial to cracking the case and apprehending the killer(s) responsible for the attack.
The guard employed to DreMac Security Company has been identified as 33-year-old Albert Joseph, alias ‘Cho Cho’, a resident of Old Golden Spring Road in the community.
The murder, which was captured on closed-circuit television, occurred at 7:14 p.m. in full view of shoppers who had to scamper for cover.
The establishment remained closed all day yesterday as a result of the killing.
The Constant Spring police recovered an illegal firearm and seized a motor vehicle following a running gun battle with the gunmen on Wednesday night in the Constant Spring area.
Fled into Cassava Piece
Reports are that the men, who the police believe killed Joseph minutes earlier in Stony Hill Square, challenged the police in the vicinity of the Constant Spring Police Station but escaped.
That incident occurred about 7:30 p.m.
“The vehicle was shot up, they exited, and ran, leaving the gun. This is where forensic evidence would come in, fingerprints and all. The police should be able to make a breakthrough in short order,” a senior officer, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, told our news team.
The Gleaner understands that the gunmen climbed over a wall adjoining the police station, escaping into the nearby Cassava Piece community, leaving behind the getaway car in which the illegal firearm and ammunition were found.
The weapon was found following another search of the area on Thursday morning.
André McLarty, owner of DreMac Security Company, in an interview with The Gleaner yesterday, said that the entire company was saddened.
“Mr Joseph was a hard-working, dedicated employee. He has been with us for just over a year now. It hurts the DreMac family he was killed that type of way,” he said.
“As a guard it would hurt, but understanding if he was killed protecting the clients’ business, but for him to be slaughtered like some animal ... . It really rocked us, and we await the law to take its course.”
