Cops probing Wendy’s brawl

The police are investigating a brawl at a Wendy’s outlet in Barbican, St Andrew, on the weekend.

Several irate customers set upon a security guard at the food Establishment in the pre-dawn Saturday morning incident, which was captured on video.

Persons who were at the outlet at the time of the incident report that the store was being closed when customers outside, some of whom reportedly had purchased food and had gone outside to wait while their meals were being prepared due to the cramped space inside, demanded to enter the Establishment.

In the fracas, the door was shattered and the store stormed by several irate men, who then set upon him. It is unclear whether he suffered any injuries in the attack.

No arrests have been made so far.

 

 

54-y-o cook charged in drug bust at airport

A 54-year-old cook, who has been charged with several breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, is to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Christmas Eve.

Valcena Suglam, of a Kingston 13 address, has been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and attempting to export cocaine.

Reports are that on Thursday, December 19, at about 11:45 a.m., a police canine alerted its handler to two suitcases at the Norman Manley International Airport. The suitcases were subsequently searched and 3.25 kilograms of white substance resembling cocaine was found in the luggage.

Suglam was subsequently arrested and charged. The drug has an estimated street value of more than $4 million.

 

 

Tourists steal tonnes of Bermuda’s famous pink sand

HAMILTON (CMC):

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources says tourists have stolen tonnes of Bermuda’s fabled pink sand from beaches and that they have been encouraged by local tour guides.

It is estimated visitors who arrive by air alone take about three tonnes of sand a year when they leave.

One report found that 222 pounds of sand, eight pounds of shells, four pounds of dead corals and a chunk of cave flowstone, hacked off the wall of a local cave, were recovered by customs officers at L.F. Wade International Airport over a two-week period.

Those figures do not take into account items taken by cruise ship passengers.

Bermuda’s public beaches are either parks or nature reserves, which means that visitors are not allowed to remove anything, including sand and rocks.

 

 

Queen attends church; Philip still in hospital

LONDON (AP):

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, Jamaica’s head of State, attended church near her country estate while her husband of 72 years, Prince Philip, remained in a London hospital yesterday.

Palace officials have not provided an update on the 98-year-old prince’s condition following the announcement last Friday that he was being admitted to King Edward VII Hospital as a precaution due to a pre-existing condition.

It is not clear when Philip will be released.

Buckingham Palace released a special holiday photo showing the Queen making Christmas desserts with her son, Prince Charles, her grandson Prince William and her great-grandson Prince George. The three princes are, respectively, the first, second and third in line for the British throne.
