Hilary Phillips, deputy chairman of the NDTC, characterised the late dancer and choreographer as an icon.

“He taught many of the dancers who have now become stars and dancers in their own right. ... He himself was a beautiful dancer,” she said.

Moncrieffe took over the artistic baton for the NDTC after the death of Rex Nettleford and helped the dance company to continue thriving.
