Prime Minister Andrew Holness ... MID P has now run its course.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced the Greater Infrastructure Development Programme (GID P) which will replace the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MID P).

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement this morning as he participated in the opening session of Caribbean Infrastructural Forum (CARIF) 2020 at the AC Marriott Hotel in New Kingston.

He said MID P had run its course and there was need to replace it with a programme that pays attention to integration with existing infrastructure and local users, the application of appropriate technology and the development of what he calls, smarter infrastructure to aid in continued maintenance.

The Prime Minister did not elaborate on GID P but a Jamaica House source says the details of the new programme are being worked out in the aftermath of the recent budget call and the programme is expected to be included in the coming budgetary estimates which are likely to be tabled on February 11, 2020.

The MID P has been in existence since 2016 and has been the main driver of budgeted infrastructural development in Jamaica aimed at capital projects including roads and drains.

CARIF 2020 is an annual infrastructural forum sponsored by CIBC First Caribbean Bank and brings together government and agency actors from across the Caribbean to discuss plans for infrastructural development.
