The People’s National Party (PNP) has moved to install Bishop Dr Purcell Jackson as its standard-bearer in Portland Eastern, replacing Damion Crawford, who left the constituency mere months after he lost in a by-election.

Jackson was announced as the PNP choice to run on its ticket at the next election by Dr Peter Phillips at a Regional Executive Council meeting at Jacisera Park in St Andrew.

Gleaner sources in Portland said Jackson had been stepping up political activity since late January as the party sought to find a substitute for Crawford.

He is preparing to face Ann-Marie Vaz, the recently elected Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) member of parliament, at the next polls.

Jackson serves as a member of the Jamaica Association of Full Gospel Churches and is on the executive of the Eastern Fraternal of Pastors in Kingston.

He is a member of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica.

Jackson has been in active ministry for more than 29 years and has been a Christian for 40 years.

Phillips also announced that David Tulloch would be representing the party in St Andrew North East.

Tulloch is a playwright, director, producer, and performer for more than 20 years.

He has been a lecturer at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean for 14 years.

Tulloch will be challenging the JLP’s Delroy Chuck for the seat.
