Investigators attached to the Kingston Eastern police are investigating the gruesome circumstances surrounding the discovery of a foetus that was found on Monday wrapped in newspaper and placed in a black plastic bag inside a garbage barrel.

The foetus was found about 7 a.m. while a National Solid Waste Management Authority garbage crew was conducting collections along the Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway.

A foul odour triggered the suspicion of the garbage collectors who made checks and unearthed the foetus inside a blue plastic barrel.

The discovery was made near the eastbound lane heading into St Thomas.

Superintendent Victor Hamilton, head of the Kingston Eastern Police Division, said that investigations were under way.

The Elletson Road Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.
