Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley declared late Monday night that his ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) has won the 2020 general election.

Rowley said that the PNM had won 22 of the 41 seats at stake.

"It was a hard election. In the end, we prevailed," he said. "Our platform has won and we have a mandate to do what we say we going to do.”

The Elections and Boundaries Commission did not make a preliminary or official announcement.

The other major party in the contest, the United National Congress, won the other 19 seats, Rowley said.
