Arscott took constituents for granted, charges MP aspirant

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) standard-bearer in Clarendon South Western, Kent Gammon, has accused three-term Member of Parliament Noel Arscott of taking for granted the constituency’s supposed loyalty to the People’s National Party (PNP).
Gammon, who spoke with The Gleaner near the Milk River Police Station as he toured the constituency two weekends ago, said Arscott was to blame for what he said was the suffering being endured by the people living there.
“The place has been under the control of the current member of parliament (MP) for the last three elections and we can see the poor state of the roads. There are no street lights. People feel unsafe, and there are no jobs being created,” he said, knocking Arscott, a former local government minister. “The place has had a poor stewardship – an absolutely poor stewardship. The people have not been represented properly.”
Gammon said that through the JLP, he was putting forward a better alternative for residents of Clarendon South Western.
“My offering to them is one of sincerity. I believe that I will bring the people of this constituency a difference in what they have been accustomed to. They are used to being neglected, they are used to the MP just ignoring them and taking them for granted because of the garrison description,” he stated.
Gammon said he planned to set up agricultural cooperatives in the constituency because it had too many idle lands.
“We need to get those lands productive again. I plan to give them a South West Clarendon Cooperative and the small farmers will then move their farming to a larger business venture,” he explained, stressing the need for farmers to have access to big markets.
The JLP representative said the roads have been in a bad state and far more work was needed on bridges across the constituency.
