National reserves to roll out

Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday announced that the security forces would be bolstered by the roll-out of the national reserves this Christmas season.

“In our discussions yesterday (Thursday) at the National Security Council meeting, we decided that in order to support the Jamaica Constabulary Force in their efforts, we will make a full call-out of the national reserves to augment the [security forces] presence that we have in communities all across Jamaica,” Holness said at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new police station in Mount Salem, St James.

Holness said the Government will be conducting dynamic operations right across the island to not only prevent murders but to ensure commercial spaces are safe.

“For the next month, we are going to make every effort to increase our dynamic operations and give greater profile to what we have been doing,” the prime minister said.

The prime minister also seemed to suggest there might be a deliberate attempt by the hoodlums to push up the crime numbers.

“It would appear that there is an emerging trend that once the criminals see that we are making progress, there is always a deliberate attempt to increase [the] numbers,” Holness said.

“We saw it the year before. and we are seeing the same trend again this year.”
