There had been mounting speculation that Opposition Leader Mark Golding would have named his long-time ally and business partner Peter Bunting to the Senate.

Peter Bunting is to be appointed to the Senate on Friday and made the new Leader of Opposition Business.

Attorney-at-law Donna Scott Mottley is currently the leader of Opposition Business in the Senate.

There had been mounting speculation that Opposition Leader Mark Golding would have named his long-time ally and business partner to the Senate after Norman Horne refused to accept Dr Peter Phillip’s recommendation back in September.

Last month, Golding succeeded Phillips as People’s National Party president and Opposition Leader.

Mottley had campaigned for defeated candidate Lisa Hanna in the leadership race.

In September, Bunting lost his bid for a fourth consecutive term as the member of parliament for Manchester Central.

Lambert Brown, Sophia Frazer Binns, Gabriella Morris, Damion Crawford and Dr Floyd Morris are the other Opposition senators.

A number of them had indicated they would not vacate their seat in the Senate to allow Golding to select his slate of senators.
