Jamaica needs a Trump

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Donald Trump is often portrayed as a demagogue in the media. However, contrary to popular belief, President Trump is decisive and quite a strategist. He may not be the most astute leader, but he is adept at rescinding agreements that are not in the interest of his people.

The decision of the president to revoke the United State's participation in the Paris Accords and the TPP infuriated the overwhelming liberal media. At the present moment, Mr Trump is being disparaged for simply obeying the rule of law. The image of separating children from their parents at the border seems cruel, but the rule of law must be upheld.

Law is the law

It is illegal to enter the US unlawfully, and since children cannot be prosecuted with their parents, one would expect that law enforcers would separate them from their families.

The US is a country of laws, and those wishing to migrate there should do so within the remit of the law. Donald Trump is a smart man who acknowledges that America cannot simply admit every immigrant on the basis of humanitarianism. If he were to follow countries like Germany and Sweden there would be chaos. With all his flaws, Trump is a prescient leader who truly puts his people first.

If our leaders had backbone like Trump, they would give us a Jexit from that unmanageable bureaucracy called CARICOM.
