Thank God for World Cup football! Everyone can embrace other nationalities and have this enormous sense of freedom.

Jamaica is a great game country. Entertainment and commerce come alive even in the most adverse of situations. Flags and T-shirts from across the world abound in every nook and on every granny. The will to survive overrides all the odds.

Let's transfer this energy into ensuring that next time around, we do make it to the finals of the World Cup and can truly hoist our own flag. This is the template and space for national pride with winning independence. It could be wonderful to have another 'spontaneous' national holiday.
