Pension payment delayed for months

Published:Tuesday | July 10, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I solicit your assistance in ascertaining the present status of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) pension payment for my wife and me. We both reside in the USA and we receive our NIS pension payment on a six-month basis.

However, we keep having difficulty in receiving our payment in a timely manner. My current pension payment was due in March 2018. To date, I am yet to receive same.

I have made numerous efforts to ascertain when I am likely to receive payment, and all my efforts have been futile. It should be noted that this appears to affect all overseas pensioners. I am of this opinion based on the fact that my aunt, who resides in Florida, USA, is having the same problem with her pension payment.

We had no choice in contributing to the NIS pension scheme, as it was compulsorily deducted from our salary before we received it. In addition, we were told that the funds deducted would be kept by the Government on our behalf in order to provide us with a pension upon reaching retirement age.
