Teach police the road code

Published:Wednesday | July 18, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Last week, I was driving towards Liguanea from Mona Road. As I approached the intersection at Waterfalls, there was no oncoming traffic on the lane I was entering. There was, however, a police car in the second lane on the other side of the road. I proceeded through the intersection and drove towards the US Embassy, only to be pulled over by the police.

At first he asked why I did not stop at the intersection. I advised that there was no stop sign, unbroken white line nor even broken white line. He then asked If I had seen the Yield sign, and why didn't I yield on his approach? Why yield? He was in a different lane on the other side of the road! This highlights how ignorant our police are of the law they are supposed to uphold.

I will pay the fine with a heavy heart because I know if I go to court, the police will not turn up. I can be contacted by email should his supervisor want to arrange the requisite training he obviously needs.
