Headline distorted meaning

Published:Thursday | July 19, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We write on behalf of the signatories to the open letter sent Wednesday, July 18, 2018, to Prime Minister Andrew Holness regarding the erosion of public trust in institutions of Government and the Petrojam allegations.

Regrettably, the use of the word 'sideline' in your heading has given the wrong construction and tone to the purpose of our letter to the prime minister, and we write to clarify the context of our request as stated in our letter.

Simply put, it is our representation that the minister should not be included in the deliberations and discussions regarding the recent events at Petrojam as that involvement may compromise him subsequently.

This is completely in line, we believe, with the prime minister's intent as previously stated by him, to relieve Minister Wheatley of his responsibilities in relation to Petrojam.

We trust that this letter will be given prominence equal to the above-mentioned publication.
