Spanish Town Hospital legal department a disgrace

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I wish to highlight the inadequacies and unprofessionalism that take place in the Medical Legal Department of the Spanish Town Hospital.

On April 4, 2018, we submitted a form from my mother's insurance to be completed by the hospital and subsequently returned to the insurance company. We were told it would take four weeks and cost of $4,000. Four weeks elapsed and the form was not ready.

Upon calling numerous times, we finally got through and were told by a gentleman that answered that he had no knowledge of the form. Upset and annoyed, I visited the department on August 13, only to be told by a young lady that she did not know where the form was or who had handled it and that I should call again! Now, for the life of me in this day and age of technological advances, how could a hospital not be able to locate an important form to be completed after having received it over four months before? What kind of slackness is this?

Is this how patient's records are handled? Why in this age patient's information isn't stored on computers for easy access? Is this what we are paying for as taxpayers? Where is the accountability? To top it off, the staff can be very rude and crass, ignoring you or barely responding to questions asked.

When will things change at this hospital? Training is definitely needed for these persons who interact with the public on a daily basis. I need my mother's form located and completed. It is now four months and counting.
