Honour our working class

Published:Wednesday | October 10, 2018 | 6:20 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am calling on the National Honourary Awards Committee to recognise more persons from the working class for national awards, who have contributed significantly to nation building.

Over the years, several of the recipients of the national awards were those individuals from the upper echelon of society, leaving out the majority of working-class people who have rendered Herculean service in many ways for the improvement of the lives of the Jamaican people.

These hard-working group of people are the ones contributing in their various communities and have continued to administer humanitarian service to the extent where it can be argued that they have emulated the characteristics of the national heroes.

The relevant authority must now show deserved appreciation to these unsung heroes, the working class, in order to have a level playing field, instead of desperately protecting the capitalist interests.
