Patois attack insulting, backward

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I refer to Lloyd Vermont's Letter of the Day in The Gleaner titled 'Patois emblematic of Jamaicans' indiscipline' (October 12, 2018).
Without knowing him and with no disrespect meant, I will assume that he is above the age of 60 and stricken with the colonial baggage. His likening of our indigenous language, Patois, as being emblematic of indiscipline squarely shows that he still suffers from mental slavery, as sung by our own Bob Marley.
I find his argument backward and insulting. There are many countries that are bilingual societies and are proud of their heritage, and none is worse off or undisciplined as a result of it.
I beg of you to find yourself or just leave the rest of us to be proud of who we are as a people.
