Women should be free to have abortions

THE EDITOR, Sir:

After reading Mark Wignall's column Cuthbert-Flynn's uphill fight against abortion' (Sunday Gleaner, October 14, 2018), permit me to say I am in agreement with Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn.

There are too many single-parent, shack-up relationships in Jamaica, which, I believe, are a contributing factor to the high crime rate, low standard of living, low level of education, which are collectively preventing our country from achieving First-World status.

Yes, people will say that sexual partners should be more responsible. I agree. But what about those mishaps like burst condoms or 'miracles' after tubal ligation.

Doctors are administering abortion anyway, so why not let it become legal with clauses, just like marijuana.

Mrs Cuthbert-Flynn, you are a woman of understanding, and I applaud your bravery. Women should be free to choose whether they carry a life into the world without being pejoratively labelled. I could not care less if a woman chooses to carry a life or not. An abortion is better than carrying the child into the world and not being able to support it.
