Saluting Bunny Grant

Published:Monday | November 19, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

George Leslie 'Bunny' Grant, former Jamaican Lightweight, Commonwealth Lightweight, Latin American and Junior Welterweight boxing champion has left us at the age of 78.

Being a Jamaican boxing icon of the 1950s, '60s, and '70s, Bunny was known to the world through the field of boxing. And he, like many others, put Jamaica on the global map.

I consider him one of the most intelligent, skilful, and determined boxers of the Jamaican soil. A boxer who was a class act.

However, my letter is not only to bid him farewell, but to suggest that a statute be made in honour and in memory of the late great Bunny Grant. He truly deserved such a monument. As a matter of fact, it should have been done long ago before he died.

Over to you, Madam Minister of Sports.

Walk good Bunny. You fought well for Jamaica. We thank you.
