Opposition wrong to sabotage SOE

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am very disappointed with the stance taken by the People's National Party (PNP) as it relates to voting to end the state of public emergency. I am absolutely livid!
This action represents outright disregard for the lives of Jamaicans who have just seen a glimmer of hope amid the tremendous efforts of the police force. The PNP should have sought to forge a united front in the best interest of the country.
I just want to see an end to the wanton disregard for people's life and property. We don't need a crime plan if the strategy being used is reaping benefits.
I have heard talk of infringement of the rights of citizens as the chief reason why it should be stopped. Legendary journalist Ian Boyne said close to his dying day that if we want an end to the crime and violence, we must disregard human rights somewhat.
It's nonsense for the Opposition to curtail the states of emergency in January, because people were dying like rice grains, and we didn't have a clue as to what would stop the bloodletting. Now that we have seen the security forces doing a brilliant job in curbing crime, we are crying foul.
The new thrust of the Jamaica Labour Party administration has helped the people from the west to feel more secure and mended fences that have been broken down for years.
