Save us from the criminals, MP Chuck

Published:Friday | February 22, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We, the citizens of King’s House Avenue in St Andrew, have been suffering greatly at the hands of criminals in recent times. There have been several instances of car theft, breaking in of cars, house break-ins, and grab-and-flee along our road.

On Wednesday night, the citizens’ association had a meeting with members of the high command of St Andrew Central, led by Senior Superintendent Jacqueline Green and Inspector Henry of the Matilda’s Corner Police Station. During the meeting, it was revealed (not for the first time) that the Matilda’s Corner Station has only one vehicle to serve the following areas:

Beverly Hills

Liguanea

Jacks Hill

Hope Road (to TGIF)

Mona

Long Mountain

Clearly, this is an impossible situation. The police have been given a basket to carry water. The officers cannot effectively police such a vast area with only one service vehicle, even if it runs for 24 hours.

It would be interesting to see how the Matilda’s Corner Station scores on the number of patrols it conducts.

I am using this medium to call on our member of parliament, Mr Delroy Chuck, to ask his Cabinet colleague, the minister of national security, for additional vehicles for the station.

Mr Chuck, the citizens of the community are expecting you to come through on this one, as we are under attack by the criminals.
