Education and the Opposition

Published:Thursday | March 21, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We all note the Opposition’s call for the Auditor General’s Department to probe claims of financial impropriety at the Ministry of Education. However, the leader of the opposition may also need to ask for an audit of schools within his constituency first.

Not disregarding their call for the audit, as no ministry should be above being audited, it is a widely known fact that rampant scamming takes place at many of these schools where political hacks are appointed to school boards with agendas of only ‘eating a food’ off poor parents’ backs.

Is the Opposition or the current administration serious about education? Both need to clean up their acts and ensure that sensible persons are appointed to school boards within their constituencies instead of endorsing persons who operate contrary to the education code and regulations.

Well-thinking Jamaicans are not asleep, and are watching both parties mishandle the education system.
