No two family members must be in Parliament

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am a concerned citizen of Jamaica, who has had my cup full. Too often, we are seeing government officials employing their spouses or other family members in their ministry. I am wondering if I am the only one who has noticed nepotism, whereby it has gone to another extreme, in which government officials and their wives are working under the same organisation. Government is government and that would mean they all sit in Parliament where laws are developed/made. For me, that is the same organisation.

Too often, now we are seeing the scandals that transpire with these scammers in high places. We lock up the young people when they scam or even if they are suspects, but what about leaders when the same is alleged?

Everybody wants wife in Parliament, but we, as a country, need to put a stop to this. No two family members must be members of Parliament. It is not just nepotism, but it is here that they can easily plan schemes.

I believe that the country needs to be placed on a lock-down and all government officials be investigated. Not just the leaders, but their spouses, children, helpers, lawyers, doctors, consultants, gardeners, grandparents, friends, animals, etc. Too much misappropriation of funds. Poor people’s money is being squandered for lavish living among the so-called scholars.

We have entrusted them to lead, but as we see, they are here to rob, steal, and create big mansions.

I end by saying, let us put a stop to this now. We, as a people, need to show that this cannot continue. Poor people fed up!
