NHT, please care for public-sector workers

THE EDITOR, Sir:

It was with great delight that many Jamaicans, and especially government employees, welcomed the announcement from Prime Minister Andrew Holness of the increased housing solutions and, coupled with that, an assurance of ensuring that government employees, and more so those who perform jobs that put them in the forefront of danger on a daily basis, receive benefits from the National Housing Trust (NHT).

However, as a hard-working government worker who goes above and beyond the call of duty, I am sorely disappointed that, in my several attempts to receive benefits, none has been forthcoming after more than 10 years of contribution to the entity.

We call on the NHT to give government employees due diligence in ensuring that government workers indeed benefit from housing solutions as they become available and as long as they meet the necessary financial requirements, as we are disheartened that solutions after solutions, we are being neglected.
