How many more have to die?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The anxiety of the last time a vehicle with more passengers than is allowed by law crashed into a ravine, we all stopped and said, “Oh my, what a terrible thing”. Now we have a dead student and 22 others … or is it 23 … injured in a single vehicle, manned by a driver eager to make his trip to collect as much money for the day as possible. So now the anxiety turns to tears for somebody, whose child is dead. The ones responsible are told “please stop the dangerous driving”, as if that is going to do anything. Perhaps the driver of the vehicle is driving it for a police officer and “him just want to make him quota for the day”.

As a member of the public and a citizen of this country, I am sick of the platitudes and ineptness of those who run hard to get on the parliamentary payroll, and when they do, the public who voted for them is the last thing on their minds.

I take note that anytime a politician gets sick, they just fly out to get medical treatment, yet the lines and environment at the public medical services in Jamaica regress beyond the state of disgust to just plainly not feasible.

Now another Jamaican is dead on the road because the politicians and their cohorts in the constabulary have no idea how to stop the wanton lawlessness, perhaps because the lawlessness suits them and they are not affected by it, since they can fly out on my taxes when it comes close to them.

I hope they all keep in mind that some of us who are not out there blocking roads and talking about “we want justice” are taking note.

My condolences to the family of the deceased.
