There is still hope for the Reggae Girlz

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I must confess that we are disappointed by the Reggae Girlz not scoring even a single goal in neither of their two matches so far– against Brazil (going down three goals to nil) and also against Italy (five goals to nil) – or being comprehensively beaten on two occasions despite being on debut in this 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

But despite this, the coach did not show any sign of the ‘roll ova an play dead’ spirit or any sign of drawing the red line. And, by his words to us, he still remains hopeful. That should also strengthen us in keeping our hope alive. Furthermore, our Girlz still maintain the ‘never say die’ attitude.

It’s a fact that our Girlz are not yet perfect in experience, especially in playing in these big competitions, so as time goes by, they will advance in experience, knowledge, and understanding.

In their encounter against their opponents so far, they should be a bit more dominant in their attack on the ball, but overall, in their possessions of the ball, I give them a mediocre average. And as time goes by, some of the loopholes will be rectified and straightened out.

Nevertheless, it’s not over until it’s over. There may be a mathematical chance for the Girlz to get out of the rut.

But we want to see them play more like warriors and put some more pace in their chasing and not play like underdogs.
