Over a year to receive widow’s pension

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I need help with this concerning situation and unlawful practice. My father passed away February of 2018. My mother applied for widow’s pension the following month and is still waiting to receive the monthly benefits that is owed to her.

She has received no response from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security after numerous attempts over the year. She spends her mornings on hold in an attempt to speak to someone. I have emailed the office for her, but have received no reply.

Why is this acceptable? Why do they have jobs? Who allows this type of management practice, not to mention having an elderly in grief suffer at the hands of the Jamaican Government?

My father lectured across various industries, working countless hours and providing extremely high-quality service. Why is this behaviour acceptable, or a standard practice, for the working people of Jamaica?
