Please help Caribbean Terrace residents

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On Friday, June 7, 2019, we were victims of a home invasion in Caribbean Terrace, Harbour View. My sister was robbed of monies for her son’s school fees and the household helper was stabbed, almost fatally. The lone criminal was able to gain access to our home via the neglected gully that runs behind our home.

This gully is part of a larger problem that has been allowed to fester and rot.

Since hurricanes Ivan and Dean, several homes have been destroyed and left uninhabitable; however, squatters have taken them over.

Here are some suggestions to help restore a once-thriving community:

1. Remove the squatters and demolish the damaged houses they now occupy

2. Fill the resulting empty lots with boulders, similar to what was done on Palisadoes road, to help break future hurricane wave surges

3. Clear inside the gully of all the debris and cut the overgrown bushes along the embankment, to remove any hiding place for criminals.

Please, Member of Parliament Juliet Holness, we don’t want the situation to get any worse or lives to be lost.
