Is there a leadership crisis in the Government?

This is an open letter to Prime Minister Andrew Holness

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says his administration will not be distracted by discussions in the public domain on abortion, homosexuality and obeah, but it is his administrators who have introduced those topics that are being discussed in his Cabinet.

Is this another case (NIDS being the first) of trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Jamaican people – and the Church, in particular – the latter of which seems to be the prime opposition to homosexuality, abortion and obeah? Or is the prime minister rapidly losing control?

With recent examples of inconsistencies and allegations of corruption, there is an urgent need for Prime Minister Holness to take some drastic decisions, otherwise the Jamaican people will be left to wonder if there is a leadership crisis in his government.

Another possible way to interpret the prime minister’s dismissal of those matters as “distractions” is based on his statement that Government needs to focus on the real threats to the society, such as poverty and lack of economic opportunities for the masses.

Should we deduce, therefore, that the prime minister will be concentrating on the preceding matters, while his Cabinet members advance his private agenda of legalising the demons of homosexuality, abortion and obeah on the Jamaican society?

Also, there appears to be a NIDS-type rush in advancing the motions in the Parliament of Jamaica on matters of homosexuality, abortion and obeah.

So, while we sing “Eternal Father, bless our land | Guard us with Thy mighty hand | Keep us free from evil powers …”, the prime minister has some explaining to do.
