Papine Market a disgrace

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I was appalled at the state of the garbage heap at the Papine Market last Saturday morning when I went there to shop. If I had stood still for one minute, I am sure I would have been covered by the swarm of flies that buzzed over the piles of garbage that were spread out on the sidewalk and walkway into the market.

This market is near a major hospital – a teaching hospital at that.

The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation should be ashamed of itself and be held accountable to the taxpayers of the city. Week after week, the garbage piles up, but last Saturday was the worst I have seen it.

Mr Mayor, what say you?
