High time for a political truce

THE EDITOR, Sir:
In the aftermath of a very contentious leadership race, the two Peters making a truce, both publicly and privately, is a good thing for both themselves, for their respective supporters, and for the People’s National Party.
Now that the two Peters are once more united as political colleagues, why can’t a truce be called between the prime minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, and the leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips? Such a truce would, in all likelihood, strengthen and enrich Jamaica’s political culture, set a great example for Jamaican youth to emulate, set an excellent example for the members of parliament, on both sides of the political aisle, to follow, and would benefit Jamaica, economically and socially.
The sad and unfortunate reality is that Jamaica’s two top political leaders spend a lot of time – far too much time – tearing one another down. It’s high time that Andrew Holness and Dr Peter Phillips make a truce, both privately and publicly, and exemplify the motto and meaning of the recently launched Government/Ministry of National Security ‘Liv gud’ campaign.
