Go and sin no more

THE EDITOR, Madam:
George S. Garwood, professor of world religions, in his letter to The Gleaner on November 8, 2019, on ‘God and gays in Jamaica’, was, as all the others have been, weak because they are illogical and some, including his, have been unfair.
After rambling for a while, he ended on a weak note, by quoting John 8:7, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone”, but conveniently omitting the more salient point of that episode, that of verse 11, “...go and sin no more.”
For the soft-minded, that quote by Garwood alone would be enough to satisfy their gullibility.
This credulousness of many can be even more accepting by the weak-minded, that Garwood ensures that he includes his title – ‘Professor of World Religions’. However, the failure to acknowledge the “go and sin no more” phrase is not fair to the debate. For the Christians, though, when verses 7 and 11 are considered, we get the full story – that Jesus condemns the sin but not the sinner. Some writers pretend that everything is relative and everyone has the right to choose what is good for themselves, and no one has the right to pass judgement on their choice(s). They are wrong.
