Less sugar is better

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am happy to know that Kool Kidz has reduced the sugar content in their juices and by a whopping 62 per cent. The new drink, with more than half the sugar content removed, is just as tasty and, as a parent, I am absolutely relieved.

Childhood obesity and diabetes are on the rise globally and especially here in the Caribbean. Sometimes, without a second thought, we unwillingly pump our kids full of sugar, which occasionally leads to health and behavioural issues. It doesn’t make us bad parents but for the sake of convenience, we use what is available in market.

I am proud when initiatives like Jamaica Moves and manufacturers like Kool Kidz join the fight. I know other parents appreciate the effort as well. We all have a responsibility to ensure that we make the best health choices for our children until they are able to do so on their own. Let’s all work to break the sugar addiction.
