School community needs urgent attention

Published:Saturday | December 7, 2019 | 12:24 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I agree 100 per cent with Ronald Thwaites’ article ‘Suck yu…’ published in The Gleaner on Monday, December 2, 2019. Excellent article.

The resources being used for the states of emergency and zones of special operations need to be redirected to address the failing social issues – broken families and challenged educational institutions.

The ODs and OJs need to knock heads together and snatch Jamaica from a path of degradation.

The school community needs urgent attention. I recently learnt that in some schools, students who are doing poorly, instead of hanging their heads in shame and try to do everything to improve, they instead become bullies, calling the other students names like ‘sissies’, ‘nerds’, etc. So we realise that most of the 281 gangs National Security Minister Horace Chang is telling us about are also in our schools.

May our good Lord help us.

Continue to speak out and be strong, Mr Thwaites. My only concern is: are they listening?
