Elevated pedestrian bridge for HWT

Published:Friday | January 24, 2020 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Half-Way Tree is Jamaica’s largest and busiest metropolis in Jamaica. The HWT bus terminal is also the largest interchange in our island; thousands of commuters traverse the terminal and its immediate environs daily.

Because of the large volume of pedestrians, traffic signals simply cannot regulate traffic and pedestrians in a sequential and timely manner.

The Ministry of Transport and Works or Local Government should construct and erect an elevated pedestrian bridge.

Let us show genuine concern for the safety of pedestrians. An elevated bridge adds a sense of safety and comfort, allowing a continuous flow of movement of pedestrians and motorists without interrupting each other.

Environmental engineering should be used and maximised to better serve the public and to help bring good order in a sustainable way for HWT.
