Urgent need for a third party

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Once again, we hear talk of Government waste of funds on rental of property, and once again it is members of the Opposition bringing this to light. In response, we expect to hear a counter-argument from members of the government side. Perhaps, we might even be given instances of wastage by the Opposition when they formed the government.

Obviously, this back and forth is doing us no good and is not effecting the meaningful change that the general public seek! Not until it is made a crime for corrupt politicians to feather their own nest in obvious corrupt practices will we see change and accountability!

I am again advocating for acceptance of the need for a viable third party in Parliament to force for meaningful debate and corrective action in matters such as this one. Based on past happenings, if we leave matters such as this in the hands of the two-party structure, all we are likely to get is accusation, rebuttal, promises for change and pretty little else.

I crave the day when progressive Jamaicans rise up and say enough is enough; let us take matters into our own hands. In short: support a third political party with minimum but sufficient seats in parliament to force meaningful debate and corrective action!
