Prisoners must pay for their crimes

Published:Wednesday | March 25, 2020 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am asking the Government not to release the inmates from the prisons. Doing so would be one of the gravest and greatest mistakes in the history of Jamaica. I have heard a news item about human rights groups begging for the release of the wrongdoers, because of health reasons pertaining to COVID-19.

Why would we want to make the murderers comfortable? Why are we showing mercy to them? When they are going around blasting out people’s lives, murdering them like dogs, do they show any sign of mercy?

The Jamaican justice system is a very unjust and corrupt one; so, releasing prisons from their cells would be a giant step into more corruption.

All those who are calling for the release of the murderers, I will ask them these questions:

- How do you feel when you hear that a monster chased a woman with a machete and chopped her several times to death?

- How do you feel when you hear that a hooligan chased his ex-spouse with a knife and stabbed her several times to death?

- How would you react if you heard that a jerk beat your daughter to death?

- Tell me, how would you cope with a news item that a wicked person chased your daughter with a gun, who was nine months pregnant and shot her to death?

One of the saddest things about this country is that some vicious murderers have been let off the hook.

Let them stay in prison and rot. They deserve harsh punishment! And they are nyamming our taxpayers’ money!
