THE EDITOR, Madam

THE SUNDAY Gleaner article titled Help or hurt’ on private ambulances and technicians is more than an eye opener.

It is alarming that this should have been allowed to happen just as the private hospitals are allowed to operate without due regulations. Also, the officer from the Ministry of Health stated that he was not aware of any legislative framework that supervises the private entities. It is a matter of concern, too, as it costs anywhere between $7,000 and $12,000 per trip for the transporting of patients to and fro from home to hospitals or medical facilities.

The Government needs to take urgent action on this matter. It is the matter of the safety and lives of Jamaican people. Also, the matter of private hospitals that are operating without due legislative framework and licences needs to be addressed with urgency.
