Letter of the Day | Where is the outrage?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Watching TVJ’s ‘Evening News’ a few days ago, I was shocked and disturbed at a report of a honey vendor being run over by an SUV during an attempt, apparently successful, by the driver to steal a bottle of honey from the victim.

I expected and anticipated that such a dastardly and callous act would be all over the news during subsequent days, and that the course of investigation and outcome of the incident would be followed by a caring Jamaican populace with at least a fraction of the interest generated locally in the George Floyd killing in the USA.

To my great consternation, I have seen none of the above in the rest of the news media, not until Sunday, June 28, when it was the subject of a Gleaner article written by the socially conscious Dr Alfred Dawes.

Where is the outrage from the rest of the media, the decent people of Jamaica, the usually vocal human rights groups, the Church, or the political representatives?

To raise righteous indignation at the slaughter of the American George Floyd, but not a whimper at the killing of the Jamaican honey vendor smacks of hypocrisy.

I ask again, where is the outrage?
