J’cans are still compassionate

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I must applaud the operators of Highway 2000 for being so thoughtful and merciful. They have delayed their annual toll increase in light of the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I know the new charges are still certain, but, at least for now, members of the public can regain some financial footing ahead of another increased cost.

The ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with our pre-existing financial troubles, have truly reduced our pockets. Many of us are now earning remarkably less than we used to. Some of us have been laid off, and others are struggling to salvage dying businesses. Therefore, having a company that considers our plight, even at the risk of a personal loss, makes us quite fortunate.

In fact, let me use this opportunity to also thank all the entities that have delayed price increases or have been offering various discounts to their customers. You have really helped many of us to stay afloat at this time, and your considerate gesture is well noted and appreciated.

Let us all continue to exercise compassion – consistently and conscientiously – even as we reel from this COVID-19 tailspin. Kindness is, indeed, a steadying force!

Thanks, my fellow countrymen!
