Politicians only think they have the power

THE EDITOR, Madam:

In the realm of politics, I notice that the politicians ‘think’ that they have all the power; and the only power the people seem to have is to vote for them, and if they don’t, they are considered non-existent, basically. The politicians think they are so suave, causing us to think that all we can do is ‘vote’ and nothing else.

It’s OK if a guy believes that all he is worth is a vote. But I won’t be subscribing to that, I’m sorry. I’m worth much much more than a ‘ vote’. I was too wonderfully and fearfully made to be reduced to a ‘vote or shut up’ system. I am too complex a being to settle with a vote as my only right in the world.

Most of what takes place inside my body are still not fully understood by the world’s top scientific minds. I am much more important and I am worth much more than a vote for a corrupt political figure. I, for one, will not allow politics to be the end-all and be-all for me.

Politics is that little microorganism in my life that I need a microscope to take a good look at, as are the politicians – their actions measure up largely to that of a particularly annoying fly just begging for a well-deserved swat.

BACK TO EARTH

Sure, politicians do things that can affect me and all that’s around me in some profound ways, but they are not the makers of heaven and earth, they could never cause all life to cease or appear at their behest.

Like me, they also are created beings that need the planet. Like me, they need water. Like me, they need food. Like me, they need air. Like me, they need light for their feet. So how is it that I should accept a vote for them as my only God-given right on earth? Tell me how is it?

I will not bow to democracy as my supreme lord and god; never! The air about these politicians needs to be snuffed a little, so they can come back down to the level of the people and stop dwelling in the temple of the gods. Then they will see that they need to take care of their country and by extension the people and their livelihoods.
