God does not dump anyone

THE EDITOR, Madam:

As an avid reader of The Gleaner for years, I was shocked by the headline of Thursday, September 17: ‘God dump the Queen’.

God doesn’t dump anyone, no matter their status or moral rectitude. Why? God would never demean His own creation; rather, He elevates and restores. We humans are the ones who dump God and fellow human beings through acts of injustice and lack of respect, which is why we have become so crass and coarse in our relationships and attitudes.

We need media like The Gleaner to help change those unhealthy attitudes that are often perpetuated by aspects of social media. As an older medium enjoying a long, distinguished reputation, guard that reputation and show others the way forward. By all means, continue the discussion on our nation’s quest for independence by highlighting those ideas and principles that will spur the Government to expedite the dumping of outdated colonial policies and practices.
