More system administrators for high schools

THE EDITOR, Madam:

As I scanned through the Careers section of The Sunday Gleaner, dated September 13, 2020, I couldn’t help noticing the demand for system administrators in our high schools.

This means several things to me:

• More trained information technology (IT) specialists will gain employment.

• Schools with no system administrators will now benefit from this initiative, especially now that there is a demand for technical support to offer online classes because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

• This will alleviate some of the pressures faced by teachers, because the system administrator will be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and rectify technical problems that arise during lesson delivery.

I hope that these system administrators will be permitted to keep their positions and continue to provide technical support after the pandemic. This will benefit both students and school administrators, because there will be a need for continuous maintenance and support to facilitate optimal IT services, which is necessary to enhance teaching and learning on the various online platforms.
