Letter of the Day | Please remove election billboards

Published:Friday | September 25, 2020 | 12:06 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

First, kudos to the political representatives who have been removing the billboards that were used in the recently concluded general election.

And for those who cannot see beyond colours, the reality is that these billboards no longer serve a purpose so if you know a better term for them, congratulations on your vocabulary. While we are thankful for the brilliant colours at this time to brighten our days, let us be reminded that the election is now behind us.

The elected representatives and those who were candidates in the election should be tasked to ensure that all campaign materials are removed post-election. They should be cognisant that they are lawmakers and should uphold the law, too. But it is sad that ultimatums have to be extended for such a cause.

They need to set an example as leaders. Let us get it right, what message are you really sending to the country? Remember, as a country, we would like to see the law applied to everyone. Or is that the very youthfulness that fuelled the campaign speeches are doing things the old way?

I am kindly asking both parties to make a united effort on this cause, and appealing to the independent candidates that if they have any billboards on the streets, they should get them removed. They should do the right thing because these little things count at lot.
