Sorry state of Morant Bay roads

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Greetings. Amidst the current pandemic and the weather conditions we’re experiencing, another cause for concern is the state of our roads, particularly those in Morant Bay. Their state is deplorable beyond any measure of imagination.

Work began to repair the roads in Morant Bay around April, and there were areas along the road that were dug out to do repairs. More than five holes that were dug; none has been covered. There is literally no sidewalk. It’s at the vehicular traffic’s discretion that we are able to walk, when they allow us to walk. On top of that, the traffic and pedestrians have to negotiate the dug-up roads.

The pace of the repairs is very slow and almost at a standstill. Taxis operators have withheld their service because their cars are being damaged. Meanwhile, people have to leave really early in order to reach their work on time. Also, there is a build-up of traffic.

I understand that work cannot be done during the rains, but it needs to be speeded up. The slow pace of road repairs is putting persons from the community, and people who have to drive through the area, at risk and at a disadvantage.
