Hotel operators have a responsibility, too

THE EDITOR, MADAM:

My deepest condolences to the family of Andre Burnett, who disappeared in the Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, waters over the weekend. This is so very sad.

I note with great concern the call being made for the Government to engage lifeguards to work in the area.

But I believe it is the owners of the many guest houses along that stretch who should combine their resources to employ lifeguards. This would show collective responsibility.

Why ask the Government? The owners of these guest houses advertise and woo guests to come to enjoy the ambience of their properties. They are the ones who should employ the lifeguards to provide security and protection for their guests.
