Hagley Park Road needs a rethink

Published:Wednesday | January 13, 2021 | 12:17 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

My first trip along Hagley Park Road in St Andrew since the changes/improvements were made was a disaster. I write this letter to warn other drivers, and to ask the transport authorities to reconstruct areas to allow turning on this road, as is done on Constant Spring Road through similar barriers.

From lower Hagley Park Road to Portmore, drivers are prevented from changing direction. Even at the toll booth, you must go through the toll, as barriers restrict drivers from turning, on both sides of the toll station. This makes no sense. There are no such restrictions on the north-south toll road.

While going down Hagley Park to Delta Supply, I expected to turn at the roundabout at Portia Simpson Miller Square. No way, as the roundabout has been removed. Afterwards, I was advised to turn left below Budget Supply, proceed to Spanish Town Road, take a right, then another right turn, to proceed up Hagley Park Road. There are no signs to guide motorists.

Unlike the helpful changes to Constant Spring Road and Barbican Square, Hagley Park Road needs a rethink.
