NIDS is good for Jamaica

THE EDITOR, Madam:
It seems to me that the National Identification System (NIDS) will ensure verifiability and validity in so far as the true identity of Jamaican citizens is concerned. A properly rolled out and managed NIDS will make for an easier, more efficient,and more effective person-to-person and digital local landscape. It will also help in ease of transacting business, voting, and banking for all stakeholders.
The capture, confidentiality, and care for the personal and/or biometric data of Jamaican citizens must, therefore, be as equally prioritised by the Government. It must be properly articulated and justified why a NIDS is necessary for Jamaica and that it is needed and something not to be feared.
Last, the best way for the NIDS to be successful is to demonstrate how it can make a positive, progressive, and practical difference in people’s lives.
