St Ann has lots to be proud of

THE EDITOR, Madam:

There is absolutely no doubt that Jamaica has had a most extraordinary impact on the world, considering its size. We have outperformed the entire world in sports, musical contests, beauty contests, and educational achievements, including debating, and have produced very outstanding international personalities as well.

It has dawned on me that the parish of St Ann, has contributed more than its fair share through its history and prominence. Discovery Bay, St Ann, was where Christopher Columbus first landed in Jamaica. Dunn’s River Falls, an internationally acclaimed attraction, is in this parish; then there are at least three of the world’s most recognised and influential personalities who have their origins in this parish.

I refer, of course, to the Most Honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, arguably the most recognised black man; and the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley. We may now add to this list the vice president-elect of the United States, Kamala Harris.

There are possibly several other outstanding personalities, events and/or monuments which I cannot recall and would be very happy if someone can supplement my list. More power to the parish of St Ann.
